story of a trophy
What crime did we do to deserve a girl child like her? it would have been better if she died at birth itself. At least she wouldn’t be answering us like this. We raised her, gave her freedom to do or study whatever she wished. every wish of her was fulfilled. how much expense she had but we never complained. We made sure to provide her everything she wants but at the end, all we got is a disappointment.
All these echoed in her ears while walking towards the platform.tears were fighting not to fall out .she took out the earphone and started looking for her playlist. As the train was late she took a place on the bench and her eyes searched for something that she didn’t even know.she raised the volume high to overcome those curses.it was just another day for her, struggling to make her identity and a support for which she was just a burden and trophy who is ready to get married.
There were many questions which were still unanswered.is being a girl a crime, why raising voice against wrong is not for us? Why our character is defined by what we wear or what sort of friend circle do we have. Why we are taught that it's male dominating society. While her mind was occupied with these, her train arrived .as it was working day it was totally crowded still she managed to get a place.trying hard not to think what she heard this morning while looking out of the window her wet eyes searched for the answers .should I drop the idea of studying in a different city?Should I accept the marriage proposal?Should I learn to compromise with my dreams? the never-ending conflict in mind was on.when she reached college everyone was waiting for her.
As she entered her friends applauded for being selected as one of the few students to study in a prestigious college scholarship.
The teary face was now carrying a smile accepting warmly the appreciation. one of her friends asked- “your parents must be very happy and proud of you”.this question reminded her of the whole morning conversation where she was cursed to b born but all she could utter was YES .as double standards of behavior are always unanswered.
